And then there were 20. Four American Idol 2010 hopefuls packed their bags for home as the eliminations got under way in the semifinals. The Top 24 each had their chance to impress the judges and the voting audience this week. The top twelve women were first last Tuesday and the guys followed the next day. There were harsh words for some, especially coming from Simon Cowell. But in the end, it was the voting public who decided who would stay and who would go home.
Unexpected results came in when Tim Urban and Alex
Lambert who got harsh criticism from the judges last night were pronounced safe. While Tim Urban and Haley Vaughn who did bad on the performance night get to stay in the competition, judges' favorites Joe Munoz and Ashley Rodriguez went home. This, after all, is a popularity contest more than a talent search.

MediaCurves.com conducted a poll on 5,025 American Idol viewers’ perceptions of which contestants should be eliminated from the top 24 yesterday. Results found that the contestants who were “voted off” during the first semifinal elimination last night did not accurately reflect viewers’ choices. During the show, Ashley Rodriguez, Joe Munoz, Janell Wheeler and Tyler Grady were eliminated. In contrast, viewers participating in the national study, which employs a “one person, one vote” system, reported that Todrick Hall, Jermaine Sellers, Haeley Vaughn, Ashley Rodriguez should be eliminated from the competition.
