Andy Whitfield cancer / Andy Whitfield non-Hodgkin lymphoma: Andy Whitfield, who plays the title role in the television series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This was revealed by the Starz network as the British born actor prepared to start shooting the next season of the action series in New Zealand. Reports said that the shooting has temporarily been postponed pending treatment of Whitfield's cancer. According to the network, doctors say the cancer was detected in its early stages and is "very treatable."
Spartacus is based on the slave and folk hero from the 1st century B.C. Spartacus is a soldier condemned to fight as a gladiator and who ultimately leads a rebellion against the Romans.
Andy Whitfield also appears in the upcoming Australian thriller, The Clinic, set for release in 2010, which was shot in Deniliquin. Whitfield is married and has two children.
