Report: Jennifer Lopez, new American Idol judge?

After the news that Ellen DeGeneres is leaving American Idol, here's news that Jennifer Lopez will be joining the show. Yes, Jennifer Lopez will be the new American Idol judge, at least that's the report of People Magazine. According to its source, the singer-actress has closed a deal with Idol producers to be a permanent judge starting this coming season. Is Jennifer Lopez Ellen DeGeneres' replacement? Reports from other sources say Simon already has a replacement but the producers have not announced it yet. It's Chris Isaak!

Maybe American Idol producers were just waiting for Ellen to announce her departure from the show before revealing their two new judges. If these reports are true, expect a major press conference from Fox in the coming days.

Ellen DeGeneres announced she is quitting as Idol judge yesterday, saying that was not "the right fit" for her:

A couple months ago, I let FOX and the "American Idol" producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on "Idol" and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.

Now that Ellen and Simon have replacements, hope Fox will replace Kara DioGuardi too! It's been two seasons already and she has not been a good fit for the American Idol. Let her go!

An industry source tells PEOPLE that the singer-actress has closed a deal to become a permanent judge on American Idol‘s season 10. “It’s true,” says one insider. “She’s excited about it.”

The news comes the same day that Ellen DeGeneres announced she was stepping down from her position as Idol‘s newest judge. The talk show host announced her departure, saying, “It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for.”

Update: The shake up at American Idol continues. Kara DioGuardi is rumored to have been fired from the show. And no, it's not Chris Isaak but Steven Tyler now rumored to be the other new judge together with JLo!
