Troy Polamalu's Hair Insured for $1 Million!

Head & Shoulders has taken a $1 Million insurance on Troy Polamalu. No, not on Polamalu himself, just his hair! That's understandable considering the Pittsburgh Steelers player has done a number of endorsements for the shampoo company. Check out the press release below:

August 30, 2010 - head & shoulders® announced today that they are taking out a $1 million dollar insurance policy on Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu's trademark hair. The head & shoulders
spokesperson's iconic mane will be protected throughout the NFL season by the world's leading insurance agency, Lloyd's of London.

No other NFL player's hair has been so recognizable to warrant this first ever type of insurance policy. In fact, Troy's hair is so ridiculously full and thick that end to end it spans 100 football fields.

"head & shoulders has gone above and beyond by insuring my Samoan locks for a cool $1 million dollars. This reinforces that my full and thick hair is unstoppable," says Troy Polamalu.

Fans can log on to Troyshair.com to learn more about Troy's secret weapon, head & shoulders' Hair Endurance for Men. The website also hosts more information on the insurance policy, a fun interactive experience, and opportunities to win outrageously cool NFL prizes including a Super Bowl XLV VIP package.

Obama Katrina Anniversary Speech Transcript/Text, VIDEO

Barack Obama was in New Orleans for the fifth anniversary of Katrina where he spoke about the efforts New Orleans and the Gulf Coast have made to recover in the five years since Hurricane Katrina and talks of his Administration's commitment to restore the area in the wake of Katrina and the BP Oil Spill. President Obama said there are still too many vacant lots, classroom trailers, displaced residents and people out of work. But he said the people of New Orleans have shown amazing resilience in the face of what happened.

Obama Katrina anniversary speech transcript, video. Check out the full text/transcript of Obama's Katrina address in New Orleans below.

We have just an extraordinary number of dedicated public servants who are here. If you will be patient with me, I want to make sure that all of them are acknowledged. First of all, you’ve got the governor of the great state of Louisiana -- Bobby Jindal is here. We have the outstanding mayor of New Orleans, Mitch Landrieu. We have the better looking and younger senator from Louisiana, Mary Landrieu.

I believe that Senator David Vitter is here. David -- right here. We have -- hold on a second now -- we’ve got Congressman Joe Cao is here. Congressman Charlie Melancon is here. Congressman Steve Scalise is here.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who has been working tirelessly down here in Louisiana, Shaun Donovan. We’ve got our EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson here -- homegirl. Administrator of FEMA Craig Fugate is here. The person who’s heading up our community service efforts all across the country -- Patrick Corvington is here. Louisiana’s own Regina Benjamin, the Surgeon General a Xavier grad, I might add. We are very proud to have all of these terrific public servants here.

It is a great honor you can see me now? Okay. It is a great honor to be back at Xavier University. And I -- it’s just inspiring to spend time with people who’ve demonstrated what it means to persevere in the face of tragedy; to rebuild in the face of ruin.

I’m grateful to Jade for her introduction, and congratulate you on being crowned Miss Xavier. I hope everybody heard during the introduction she was a junior at Ben Franklin High School five years ago when the storm came. And after Katrina, Ben Franklin High was terribly damaged by wind and water. Millions of dollars were needed to rebuild the school. Many feared it would take years to reopen -- if it could be reopened at all.

But something remarkable happened. Parents, teachers, students, volunteers, they all got to work making repairs. And donations came in from across New Orleans and around the world. And soon, those silent and darkened corridors, they were bright and they were filled with the sounds of young men and women, including Jade, who were going back to class. And then Jade committed to Xavier, a university that likewise refused to succumb to despair. So Jade, like so many students here at this university, embody hope. That sense of hope in difficult times, that's what I came to talk about today.

It’s been five years since Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast. There’s no need to dwell on what you experienced and what the world witnessed. We all remember it keenly: water pouring through broken levees; mothers holding their children above the waterline; people stranded on rooftops begging for help; bodies lying in the streets of a great American city. It was a natural disaster but also a man-made catastrophe -- a shameful breakdown in government that left countless men, and women, and children abandoned and alone.

And shortly after the storm, I came down to Houston to spend time with some of the folks who had taken shelter there. And I’ll never forget what one woman told me. She said, “We had nothing before the hurricane. And now we’ve got less than nothing.”

In the years that followed, New Orleans could have remained a symbol of destruction and decay; of a storm that came and the inadequate response that followed. It was not hard to imagine a day when we’d tell our children that a once vibrant and wonderful city had been laid low by indifference and neglect. But that’s not what happened. It’s not what happened at Ben Franklin. It’s not what happened here at Xavier. It’s not what happened across New Orleans and across the Gulf Coast. Instead this city has become a symbol of resilience and of community and of the fundamental responsibility that we have to one another.

And we see that here at Xavier. Less than a month after the storm struck, amidst debris and flood-damaged buildings, President Francis promised that this university would reopen in a matter of months. Some said he was crazy. Some said it couldn’t happen. But they didn’t count on what happens when one force of nature meets another. And by January -- four months later -- class was in session. Less than a year after the storm, I had the privilege of delivering a commencement address to the largest graduating class in Xavier’s history. That is a symbol of what New Orleans is all about.

We see New Orleans in the efforts of Joycelyn Heintz, who’s here today. Katrina left her house 14 feet underwater. But after volunteers helped her rebuild, she joined AmeriCorps to serve the community herself -- part of a wave of AmeriCorps members who’ve been critical to the rebirth of this city and the rebuilding of this region. So today, she manages a local center for mental health and wellness.

We see the symbol that this city has become in the St. Bernard Project, whose founder Liz McCartney is with us. This endeavor has drawn volunteers from across the country to rebuild hundreds of homes throughout St. Bernard Parish and the Lower Ninth Ward.

I’ve seen the sense of purpose people felt after the storm when I visited Musicians’ Village in the Ninth Ward back in 2006. Volunteers were not only constructing houses; they were coming together to preserve the culture of music and art that’s part of the soul of this city -- and the soul of this country. And today, more than 70 homes are complete, and construction is underway on the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music.

We see the dedication to the community in the efforts of Xavier grad Dr. Regina Benjamin, who mortgaged her home, maxed out her credit cards so she could reopen her Bayou la Batre clinic to care for victims of the storm -- and who is now our nation’s Surgeon General.

And we see resilience and hope exemplified by students at Carver High School, who have helped to raise more than a million dollars to build a new community track and football field -- their “Field of Dreams” -- for the Ninth Ward.

So because of all of you -- all the advocates, all the organizers who are here today, folks standing behind me who’ve worked so hard, who never gave up hope -- you are all leading the way toward a better future for this city with innovative approaches to fight poverty and improve health care, reduce crime, and create opportunities for young people. Because of you, New Orleans is coming back.

And I just came from Parkway Bakery and Tavern. Five years ago, the storm nearly destroyed that neighborhood institution. I saw the pictures. Now they’re open, business is booming, and that’s some good eats. I had the shrimp po’boy and some of the gumbo. But I skipped the bread pudding because I thought I might fall asleep while I was speaking. But I’ve got it saved for later.

Five years ago, many questioned whether people could ever return to this city. Today, New Orleans is one of the fastest growing cities in America, with a big new surge in small businesses. Five years ago, the Saints had to play every game on the road because of the damage to the Superdome. Two weeks ago, we welcomed the Saints to the White House as Super Bowl champions. There was also food associated with that. We marked the occasion with a 30-foot po’boy made with shrimps and oysters from the Gulf. And you’ll be pleased to know there were no leftovers.

Now, I don’t have to tell you that there are still too many vacant and overgrown lots. There are still too many students attending classes in trailers. There are still too many people unable to find work. And there are still too many New Orleanians, folks who haven’t been able to come home. So while an incredible amount of progress has been made, on this fifth anniversary, I wanted to come here and tell the people of this city directly: My administration is going to stand with you -- and fight alongside you -- until the job is done. Until New Orleans is all the way back, all the way.

When I took office, I directed my Cabinet to redouble our efforts, to put an end to the turf wars between agencies, to cut the red tape and cut the bureaucracy. I wanted to make sure that the federal government was a partner -- not an obstacle -- to recovery here in the Gulf Coast. And members of my Cabinet -- including EPA administrator, Lisa Jackson, who grew up in Pontchartrain Park they have come down here dozens of times. Shaun Donovan has come down here dozens of times. This is not just to make appearances. It’s not just to get photo ops. They came down here to listen and to learn and make real the changes that were necessary so that government was actually working for you.

So for example, efforts to rebuild schools and hospitals, to repair damaged roads and bridges, to get people back to their homes -- they were tied up for years in a tangle of disagreements and byzantine rules. So when I took office, working with your outstanding delegation, particularly Senator Mary Landrieu, we put in place a new way of resolving disputes. We put in place a new way of resolving disputes so that funds set aside for rebuilding efforts actually went toward rebuilding efforts. And as a result, more than 170 projects are getting underway -- work on firehouses, and police stations, and roads, and sewer systems, and health clinics, and libraries, and universities.

We’re tackling the corruption and inefficiency that has long plagued the New Orleans Housing Authority. We’re helping homeowners rebuild and making it easier for renters to find affordable options. And we’re helping people to move out of temporary homes. You know, when I took office, more than three years after the storm, tens of thousands of families were still stuck in disaster housing -- many still living in small trailers that had been provided by FEMA. We were spending huge sums of money on temporary shelters when we knew it would be better for families, and less costly for taxpayers, to help people get into affordable, stable, and more permanent housing. So we’ve helped make it possible for people to find those homes, and we’ve dramatically reduced the number of families in emergency housing.

On the health care front, as a candidate for President, I pledged to make sure we were helping New Orleans recruit doctors and nurses, and rebuild medical facilities -- including a new veterans hospital. Well, we have resolved a long-standing dispute -- one that had tied up hundreds of millions of dollars -- to fund the replacement for Charity Hospital. And in June, Veterans Secretary Ric Shinseki came to New Orleans for the groundbreaking of that new VA hospital.

In education, we’ve made strides as well. As you know, schools in New Orleans were falling behind long before Katrina. But in the years since the storm, a lot of public schools opened themselves up to innovation and to reform. And as a result, we’re actually seeing rising achievement, and New Orleans is becoming a model of innovation for the nation. This is yet another sign that you’re not just rebuilding -- you’re rebuilding stronger than before. Just this Friday, my administration announced a final agreement on $1.8 billion dollars for Orleans Parish schools. This is money that had been locked up for years, but now it’s freed up so folks here can determine best how to restore the school system.

And in a city that’s known too much violence, that’s seen too many young people lost to drugs and criminal activity, we’ve got a Justice Department that's committed to working with New Orleans to fight the scourge of violent crime, and to weed out corruption in the police force, and to ensure the criminal justice system works for everyone in this city. And I want everybody to hear -- to know and to hear me thank Mitch Landrieu, your new mayor, for his commitment to that partnership.

Now, even as we continue our recovery efforts, we’re also focusing on preparing for future threats so that there is never another disaster like Katrina. The largest civil works project in American history is underway to build a fortified levee system. And as I -- just as I pledged as a candidate, we’re going to finish this system by next year so that this city is protected against a 100-year storm. We should not be playing Russian roulette every hurricane season. And we’re also working to restore protective wetlands and natural barriers that were not only damaged by Katrina -- were not just damaged by Katrina but had been rapidly disappearing for decades.

In Washington, we are restoring competence and accountability. I am proud that my FEMA Director, Craig Fugate, has 25 years of experience in disaster management in Florida. He came from Florida, a state that has known its share of hurricanes. We’ve put together a group led by Secretary Donovan and Secretary Napolitano to look at disaster recovery across the country. We’re improving coordination on the ground, and modernizing emergency communications, helping families plan for a crisis. And we’re putting in place reforms so that never again in America is somebody left behind in a disaster because they’re living with a disability or because they’re elderly or because they’re infirmed. That will not happen again.

Finally, even as you’ve been buffeted by Katrina and Rita, even as you’ve been impacted by the broader recession that has devastated communities across the country, in recent months the Gulf Coast has seen new hardship as a result of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. And just as we’ve sought to ensure that we are doing what it takes to recover from Katrina, my administration has worked hard to match our efforts on the spill to what you need on the ground. And we’ve been in close consultation with your governor, your mayors, your parish presidents, your local government officials.

And from the start, I promised you two things. One is that we would see to it that the leak was stopped. And it has been. The second promise I made was that we would stick with our efforts, and stay on BP, until the damage to the Gulf and to the lives of the people in this region was reversed. And this, too, is a promise that we will keep. We are not going to forget. We’re going to stay on it until this area is fully recovered.

That’s why we rapidly launched the largest response to an environmental disaster in American history -- 47,000 people on the ground, 5,700 vessels on the water -- to contain and clean up the oil. When BP was not moving fast enough on claims, we told BP to set aside $20 billion in a fund -- managed by an independent third party -- to help all those whose lives have been turned upside down by the spill.

And we will continue to rely on sound science, carefully monitoring waters and coastlines as well as the health of the people along the Gulf, to deal with any long-term effects of the oil spill. We are going to stand with you until the oil is cleaned up, until the environment is restored, until polluters are held accountable, until communities are made whole, and until this region is all the way back on its feet.

So that’s how we’re helping this city, and this state, and this region to recover from the worst natural disaster in our nation’s history. We’re cutting through the red tape that has impeded rebuilding efforts for years. We’re making government work better and smarter, in coordination with one of the most expansive non-profit efforts in American history. We’re helping state and local leaders to address serious problems that had been neglected for decades -- problems that existed before the storm came, and have continued after the waters receded -- from the levee system to the justice system, from the health care system to the education system.

And together, we are helping to make New Orleans a place that stands for what we can do in America -- not just for what we can’t do. Ultimately, that must be the legacy of Katrina: not one of neglect, but of action; not one of indifference, but of empathy; not of abandonment, but of a community working together to meet shared challenges.

The truth is, there are some wounds that have not yet healed. And there are some losses that can’t be repaid. And for many who lived through those harrowing days five years ago, there’s searing memories that time may not erase. But even amid so much tragedy, we saw stirrings of a brighter day. Five years ago we saw men and women risking their own safety to save strangers. We saw nurses staying behind to care for the sick and the injured. We saw families coming home to clean up and rebuild -- not just their own homes, but their neighbors’ homes, as well. And we saw music and Mardi Gras and the vibrancy, the fun of this town undiminished. And we’ve seen many return to their beloved city with a new-found sense of appreciation and obligation to this community.

And when I came here four years ago, one thing I found striking was all the greenery that had begun to come back. And I was reminded of a passage from the book of Job. “There is hope for a tree if it be cut down that it will sprout again, and that its tender branch will not cease.” The work ahead will not be easy, and there will be setbacks. There will be challenges along the way. But thanks to you, thanks to the great people of this great city, New Orleans is blossoming again.

Thank you, everybody. God bless you. And God bless the United States of America.

Eric Stonestreet wins Emmy for Modern Family (VIDEO)

Many of us thought none of the actors nominated for an Emmy from Modern Family would win. Don't get me wrong. They are all brilliant and deserving of such an honor. But since three are competing in the same category, we thought they would cancel each other out. We were wrong. Eric Stonestreet won the Emmy for supporting actor in a comedy for Modern Family. Stonestreet beat his co-stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ty Burrell as well as Chris Colfer from Glee, Neil Patrick Harris for How I Met Your Mother and Jon Cryer for Two and a Half Men.

I would have preferred Colfer or NPH for the Emmy win over Eric Stonestreet. But it was not to be. Besides, Neil Patrick Harris already won two Emmys this year, previously given out during the Creative Arts ceremony - for hosting the Tony Awards and for a guest performance on GLEE.

Emmy Winners 2010: Jim Parsons wins for TBBT (VIDEO)

The nerds must have been jumping up and down last night as "one of them" has won an Emmy Award! Jim Parsons won the Emmy for best actor in a comedy for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory. Parsons' Sheldon is the biggest nerd of them all on TBBT. With this win, Parsons thus ends the winning streak of Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock.

Comedy produced several first-time Emmy winners this year. Aside from Jim Parsons, ERic Stonestreet, Jane Lynch and Edie Falco were first-time winners, Falco
being a first-timer in the comedy category for her lead role in Nurse Jackie. She has, of course, amassed quite a number of Emmy wins already but that was for drama in The Sopranos.

Emmy Winners 2010: Jane Lynch wins for GLEE (VIDEO)

Sue Sylvester has collected another trophy. Not for cheer leading but for acting! Jane Lynch was an Emmy winner last night. Lynch won her first Emmy for her supporting role in the hit comedy-musical series GLEE, playing the scheming but lovable Sue Sylvester.

Lynch's Glee co-stars were likewise nominated last night but only she was lucky enough to go home with a trophy. The show was nominated in the best comedy program as well, but lost out to Modern Family. Glee's creator, Ryan Murphy, meanwhile, snagged the best director
trophy.

It was a first Emmy Awards win for Jane Lynch. In fact, the awards night was seemingly a night for first wins - Modern Family for best comedy, Eric Stonestreet for best supporting actor in a comedy, Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory for lead actor in a comedy, Kyra Sedgewick for lead actress in a drama, Top Chef for best reality competition show (beating out seven-time winner, The Amazing Race). For the list of last night's Emmy winners, check out Emmy Awards 2010: Primetime Emmy Winners List.

CHEATS: A puzzle has many sides but only some are visible

CHEATS: A puzzle has many sides but only some are visibleAlready stuck while playing Batman Arkham Asylum? The game proves to be difficult in some areas especially Riddler's challenges. He he. Have you encountered this one? "A puzzle has many sides but only some are visible"? Here are the cheats (hints, clues, hacks, solutions) to "A puzzle has many sides but only some are visible" we have found online. Read on and enjoy the game.

Sanatorium
A question can only be answered from a new perspective. Don't you agree?
As you enter the room, there's a breakable floor on the left hand side. Demolish it with gel, then stand on the side and switch on Detective Mode. The main bit of the question mark is on the side of the hole, the dot is on the floor below.

TICK! TOCK! News flash! Someone is not getting out of here alive.
In the large room where you free Dr Young from Joker's thugs, look for the cell decorated with skulls on the lower level. The clue suggests it's something to do with Killer Croc, but I don't think he'd fit in there!

Morgue
What silent killer of the oceans can be found in a tiny jar?
There's a jar at the end of the autopsy table, containing fingers and body parts from Great White Shark. Zoom in on the jar, make sure the label is displayed.

Medical Foyer
Is the generosity of our benefactors on the Wayne?
Directly opposite the front doors. It's the gold plaque saying the medical unit was funded by the Bruce Wayne Foundation for the Criminally Insane.

Map Area: Caves
Main Sewer Junction
A puzzle has many sides, but only some are visible.
The riddler symbol that you can only see in detective mode. To scan it, you need to find the dot for the question mark. Line it up for when you snap a shot of it. Otherwise it will say "solution unaligned" even if you scan it from different sides.

Map Area: Arkham Mansion
South Corridor
This fiendish puzzle literally appears out of thin air.
One of Riddler's hidden question marks. You'll see most of it very easily in Detective Mode - it's over a display case. You'll need to grapple up to the duct opposite and look down to find the dot though.

What does a bird need in the rain?
Penguin's umbrellas. Easily found in a display case.

Warden's Office

Isn't the Warden too old for a puppet show?
Scarface. He's in a display case. Can't miss it.

Main Hall

Who is the main man in the main hall?
Not the statue! Look for the plaque honoring Commisioner Gordon on the right hand side staircase.

Dr Young's Office

It'll be a cold day in Hell when this Ghul rises again.
In one of the rooms outside Young's office, there's a wall of body freezers. Look for the one sticking out and zoom in on Ra's Al Ghul's toe tag. Fun Easter Egg: if you return after completing the story, he's gone.

How do you mask your feelings without losing control?
The big tribal mask on the wall of Young's office. Impossible to miss.

Arkham Records Room
Our records show that a Strange transfer request was made in this room.
Hidden behind an electronic barrier. You'll need the Cryptographic Sequencer, the horizontal zipline and the Power Amplifier upgrade. Disable the barrier, zipline over the electric floor and you'll find Hugo Strange's files. It took me a few attempts to find a view of them that the game would accept, but just zoom in and keep trying.

North Corridor
Did Amadeus go mad, or was he just dizzy?
I think you find this while finding a way into Dr Young's office. You'll need to crawl through the vents and drop down into a small cell. There's another cell nearby with circular writing all over the walls. Zoom in on Amadeus Arkham's insane scribblings.

East Wing Corridor
A game of Cat and mouse can be painful.
Catwoman's mask and gloves. Easy to spot in a display case.

Main Cell Block
This room is the end of days for even the most celebrated killer.
The clue reads like it's referring to an execution chamber, but it actually refers to Calendar Man's cell. It's the one papered with calendar pages.

Two people, one voice, no gun?
After fighting Harley's goons on top of the cells, you're looking for Scarface's tommy gun, in a case on the wall between the two control rooms.

UPDATE: Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 VIDEO - Arkham has moved!

"The Joker attacks Gotham City's Mayor's office, but is foiled by Batman, who escorts him for incarceration at Arkham Asylum. The same night, a mysterious fire at Gotham City's Blackgate Prison has required using Arkham to house several hundred prisoners temporarily. As Batman escorts the guards as they take Joker inside, the asylum's security is overridden by Harley Quinn and the Joker is able to escape and take control of the facility, enlisting the Blackgate prisoners in addition to other rogue characters imprisoned at the asylum. Batman quickly realizes that this has been part of Joker's plan including the Blackgate fire, having double-crossed a security guard to help him escape. The Joker threatens to blow up bombs scattered around Gotham City should anyone attempt to enter Arkham, forcing Batman to work alone; however, Batman is able to rely on Commissioner Gordon and other loyal guards, after Batman is able to free them, to help secure prisoners he has defeated, and Oracle is able to guide him through the Asylum over the radio. Batman is able to gain access to an adjunct of the Batcave he had set up years ago on the island, and is able to use his sleuthing skills to learn of Joker's plan. It is eventually revealed that the Joker is seeking a chemical called Titan that is produced in the asylum, which is based on the same chemical that Bane uses to become super-powerful, though the Titan formula is much more potent. Not only does the Joker plan to use it on the various Blackgate inmates to create an unstoppable army, he plans to dump the waste product into Gotham's water supply, which could have disastrous effects on the city. This also has the side effect of causing Poison Ivy's plants to mutate and take over the island."

Restoring Honor Rally: Sarah Palin Transcript, VIDEO

8-28 Restoring Honor Rally. Glenn Beck and other conservatives, among them Sarah Palin, assembled on the National Mall appealing to their followers to help restore traditional American values and honor Martin Luther King's message.

"We must restore America and restore her honor," said Palin, the former Alaska governor, echoing the name of the rally, Restoring Honor. Check out the full transcript & video of Sarah Palin's Restoring Honor rally speech below. (Full text/transcript courtesy of Sarah Palin blog).

Thank you so much. Are you not so proud to be an American?

What an honor. What an honor.

We stand today at the symbolic crossroads of our nation’s history. All around us are monuments to those who have sustained us in word or deed. There in the distance stands the monument to the father of our country. And behind me, the towering presence of the Great Emancipator who secured our union at the moment of its most perilous time and freed those whose captivity was our greatest shame. And over these grounds where we are so honored to stand today, we feel the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who on this very day, two score and seven years ago, gave voice to a dream that would challenge us to honor the sacred charters of our liberty – that all men are created equal.

Now, in honoring these giants, who were linked by a solid rock foundation of faith in the one true God of justice, we must not forget the ordinary men and women on whose shoulders they stood. The ordinary called for extraordinary bravery. I am speaking, of course, of America’s finest – our men and women in uniform, a force for good in this country, and that is nothing to apologize for.

Abraham Lincoln once spoke of the “The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearthstone, all over this broad land.” For over 200 years, those mystic chords have bound us in gratitude to those who are willingly to sacrifice, to restrain evil, to protect God-given liberty, to sacrifice all in defense of our country.

They fought for its freedom at Bunker Hill, they fought for its survival at Gettysburg, and for the ideals on which it stands – liberty and justice for all – on a thousand battlefields far from home.

It is so humbling to get to be here with you today, patriots – you who are motivated and engaged and concerned, knowing to never retreat. I must assume that you too know that we must not fundamentally transform America as some would want. We must restore America and restore her honor!

Now, I’ve been asked to speak today, not as a politician. No, as something more – something much more. I’ve been asked to speak as the mother of a soldier, and I am proud of that distinction. You know, say what you want to say about me, but I raised a combat vet, and you can’t take that away from me. I’m proud of that distinction, but it is not one that I had imagined because no woman gives birth thinking that she will hand over her child to her country, but that’s what mothers have done from ancient days.

In cities and towns across our country, you’ll find monuments to brave Americans wearing the uniforms of wars from long ago, and look down at their inscriptions, you’ll see that they were so often dedicated by mothers. In distant lands across the globe, you’ll find silent fields of white markers with the names of Americans who never came home, but who showed their dedication to their country by where they died.

We honor those who served something greater than self and made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who served and did come home forever changed by the battlefield. Though this rally is about “restoring honor,” for these men and women honor was never lost! If you look for the virtues that have sustained our country, you will find them in those who wear the uniform, who take the oath, who pay the price for our freedom.

And I’d like to tell you three stories of such Americans – three patriots – who stand with us today.

The first is a man named Marcus Luttrell. His story is one of raw courage in the face of overwhelming odds. It’s also a story of America’s enduring quest for justice. Remember, we went to Afghanistan seeking justice for those who were killed without mercy by evil men on September 11th. And one fateful day in Afghanistan on a mountain ridge, Marcus and three of his fellow Navy SEALs confronted the issue of justice and mercy in a decision that would forever change their lives.

They were on a mission to hunt down a high-level Taliban leader, but they were faced with a terrible dilemma when some men herding goats stumbled upon their position, and they couldn’t tell if these men were friend or foe. So the question was what to do with them? Should they kill them or should they let them go and perhaps risk compromising their mission? They took a vote. They chose mercy over self-preservation. They set their prisoners free. The vote said it was the humane thing to do. It was the American thing to do. But it sealed their fate because within hours, over a hundred Taliban forces arrived on the scene. They battled the four Navy SEALs throughout the surrounding hills. A rescue helicopter came, but it was shot down. By the time the sun set on June 28, 2005, it was one of the bloodiest days for American forces in Afghanistan.

19 brave, honorable men were lost that day. Marcus was the sole survivor. Alone, stranded, badly wounded, he limped and crawled for miles along that mountain side. What happened next is a testament to the words: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.” Marcus and his team showed mercy in letting their prisoners free. And later he was shown mercy by Afghan villagers who honored an ancient custom of providing hospitality to any stranger who would ask for it. They took him in. They cared for him, refused to hand him over to the Taliban. They got him back safely to our forces.

Marcus’ story teaches us that even on the worst battlefield against the most brutal enemy, we adhere to our principles. This American love of justice and mercy is what makes us a force for good in this world. Marcus is a testament to that.

Please join me in honoring retired U.S. Navy SEAL Petty Officer Marcus Luttrell.

From the time he first heard men marching to a cadence call, Eddie Wright had one dream in life, and that was to be a United States Marine. And as a Marine serving in Iraq, his company was ambushed in Fallujah. He was knocked out when a rocket propelled grenade hit his Humvee. When he came to, he saw that both his hands were gone and his leg was badly wounded.

He couldn’t fire his weapon, he could barely move, and he was bleeding to death. But he had the strength of mind to lead the men under his command, and that is exactly what he did. He kept them calm, he showed them how to stop the bleeding in his leg, he told them where to return fire, he had them call for support, and he got them out of there alive.

His composure under fire that day earned him the Bronze Star with Valor device. But if you ask him, “What did you get it for?”, he’ll tell you, “Just for doing my job.”

After a long recovery, Eddie continued to serve as a martial arts instructor. He resigned from his beloved Marine Corps a few years ago, but he still lives by the motto: “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

And if you want to see the American spirit of never retreating, no matter the odds – of steady confidence and optimism, no matter the setbacks – look at Eddie’s story. No matter how tough times are, Americans always pull through. As Eddie put it himself: “We don’t really foster the attitude of I can’t. When you have an obstacle in front of you, you just keep putting one foot in front of the other, and focus on what you can.”

So, please join me in honoring retired Marine Sergeant James “Eddie” Wright.

Tom Kirk was an Air Force squadron commander and a combat pilot who had flown over 150 missions in Korea and Vietnam. One day on a routine mission over Hanoi, his plane was shot down. He spent the next five and a half years in that living hell known as the Hanoi Hilton.

Like his fellow prisoners, Tom endured the beatings, the torture, the hunger, the years of isolation. He described it, saying, “There was nothing to do, nothing to read, nothing to write. You had to just sit there in absolute boredom, loneliness, frustration, and fear. You had to live one day at a time, because you had no idea how long you were going to be there.”

After two years of solitary confinement, pacing back and forth in his cell — three and a half steps across, three and a half steps deep – Tom was finally moved to a larger holding cell with 45 other Americans prisoners, among them was a man named John McCain. In circumstances that defy description, this band of brothers kept each other alive, and one by one, they came home.

Tom was released on March 14, 1973. You might think that a man who had suffered so much for his country would be bitter and broken by it. But Tom’s heart was only filled with love – love for America – that special love of country that we call patriotism.

Tom wrote, “Patriotism has become, for many, a ‘corny’ thing. For me, it is more important now than at any time in my life. How wonderful it is to be an American come home!”

Friends, please join me in honoring retired Air Force Colonel Tom Kirk.

My fellow Americans, each one of these men here today faced terrible sufferings, overwhelming set-backs, and impossible odds.

And they endured! And their stories are America’s story.

We will always come through. We will never give up, and we shall endure because we live by that moral strength that we call grace. Because though we’ve often skirted a precipice, a providential hand has always guided us to a better future.

And I know that many of us today, we are worried about what we face. Sometimes our challenges, they just seem insurmountable.

But, here, together, at the crossroads of our history, may this day be the change point!

Look around you. You’re not alone. You are Americans!

You have the same steel spine and the moral courage of Washington and Lincoln and Martin Luther King. It is in you. It will sustain you as it sustained them.

So with pride in the red, white, and blue; with gratitude to our men and women in uniform; let’s stand together! Let’s stand with honor! Let’s restore America!

God bless you! And God bless America!

[Kanye West - Chorus]

8-28 Glenn Beck Rally Live Stream: Restoring Honor Free Online

The web is abuzz with the Glenn Beck Rally. Called Restoring Honor, the rally is the latest exercise in freedom of speech from Beck, self-described conservative radio and television host, political commentator, author, and entrepreneur. The rally will be at the same place, and 47 years to the day, since Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream Speech" (Beck's detractors have called his event the "I Have a Scheme" event). When asked why he chose that date in particular, Beck said he had not realized its significance, but in thinking about it, he saw it is an auspicious day to rally for
the honor of the American people. He has said that Martin Luther King didn’t speak only for African-Americans. He spoke for all Americans.

Sarah Palin is a keynote speaker, as is Alveda King, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s niece, who says her uncle would attend the rally if he were alive today. Other orators include Beck himself and executives from the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a charity that provides funds for the surviving children of Special Ops personnel killed in battle.

Watch the Glenn Beck rally LIVE ONLINE free streaming. The Glen Beck Restoring Honor event will be streamed free online through Ustream on its Facebook page. Check out the Restoring Honor Facebook page for the coverage. Official hours of the rally are 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010.
