2011 Oscar / Academy Awards Hosts: James Franco & Anne Hathaway

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced its choices for the hosting job of the 2011 Oscars - Anne Hathaway and James Franco. In its effort to attract younger viewers, the Academy has picked what it calls the future of the industry - two of the biggest names in the film industry in their generation.

"James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of
Hollywood icons - fresh, exciting and multi-talented." Thus read the statement issued by co-producer Don Mischer and producer Bruce Cohen regarding their choices.

Oscar Awards hosts have almost always been comedians. Bob Hope, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Martin, to name a few. So are they taking a big risk in getting non-comedians, or is the ceremony trying something different this year?

I wonder if the two, or any of them will be singing aside from hosting. You may remember Anne singing a short piece two years ago when host Hugh Jackman plucked her from the audience for one of his spiels. Let's wait and see.

Charice Dating David Archuleta: Is the Romance True or False?

Are David Archuleta and Charice dating? That's the latest buzz as on the web after Charice and Archuleta recently did a duet during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at The Grove LA. In a recent interview, the Filipino singer was asked if she is thinking of Archuleta whenever she performs a love song.

"What a question, what a question. First of all, I'm friend with David
Archuleta and he is a great guy. Second, singing love songs with emotion, I think it's part of being a singer. Every time you sing, you should feel the song even if you're not in love. You just have to understand the words.”

Charice further clarifies that she always dedicates her performances to her friends and family, but never to a special someone. And when asked if she has a secret romance with the American Idol alum, Charice replied in the negative.

"Oh no, no, no," Charice quickly said.

It's Sectionals on Glee this week and New Directions is competing with some of the best choirs in their area. The Dog Days Are Over by Florence and The Machine, that's what New Directions is singing. Sons of Anarchy Season 4 Updates, SPOILERS

Another season of Sons of Anarchy is ending. What about season 4? When will the next chapter of Sons of Anarchy air? Ever since news that the tv series has been renewed for a fourth season, fans of the show have been curious as to what arc the next season will have. With season 3 ending this week, this curiosity will reach fever pitch.

FX has renewed its critically acclaimed hit drama Sons of

Anarchy for a fourth season, placing a 13-episode order from Fox 21 and FX Productions, announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks.

Eight all-new episodes remain in SOA’s current third season airing Tuesdays at 10pm et/pt, and beginning in two weeks the encore runs will air Tuesdays at 11pm and 1am, Fridays at 10pm and Sundays at 10pm. The third season finale will air on Tuesday, November 30.

In 2010, Sons of Anarchy ranks as basic cable’s number one scripted series in delivery of Adults 18-49. On a weekly, multi-telecast basis, Sons of Anarchy delivers 8.6 million Total Viewers and 5.9 million Adults 18-49. On a first-run, primary telecast basis, Sons averages 4.9 million Total Viewers and 3.4 million Adults 18-49. It is the highest rated series ever for FX.

“Sons of Anarchy is the most popular show FX has ever had, and the #1 series in basic cable for our key demographic. It is also one of the best, most original series on television,” said Landgraf. “FX is grateful to Kurt Sutter and his team of writers, actors, directors and crew for working so hard to make a show that achieves both those levels of success. We congratulate them and look forward to season four.”

Aside from this press release from FX about the renewal of Sons of Anarchy, nothing has yet been revealed about season 4. Expect spoilers and updates to start trickling in in the coming week. And this page will certainly have them. Check for it regularly.

Barcelona routs Real Madrid 5-0 in El Clasico (VIDEO): 5th Straight Barca Win Over Real

Barcelona recorded its fifth straight El Clasico win over Real Madrid, humbling the visitors with a 5-0 rout. David Villa scored twice as Barcelona ripped apart Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid to go top of the league table. Barcelona now leads Madrid by two points with 34 points from 13 games after a seventh straight league win.

The star of the match was, of course, Lionel Messi despite not scoring
a goal. But Messi was instrumental in the victory by setting up two goals and putting Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the shade in the much-hyped matchup of two of the world’s best players. Xavi Hernandez and Pedro Rodriguez put the defending champion 2-0 ahead inside 18 minutes before Villa scored a second-half brace. Substitute Jeffren Suarez scored in the 90th to seal it in front of nearly 100,000 fans at the Camp Nou stadium.

It's back to the drawing board for Jose Mourinho and Real tries looks for the formula to beat Barca. Barcelona’s speed and one-touch passing game frustrated Madrid throughout as it recorded its biggest national derby victory since a 5-0 win here during the 1993-94 season.

In 1997, Jay Shafer built himself a small house. That small house would later be called Tumbleweed, and spur the birth of the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company that builds small, efficient houses. “Living in a small house really entails knowing what you need to be happy and getting rid of everything else,” said Jay Shafer, who lived in a 89-square foot house with his wife.

Tumbleweed Tiny House Company's houses are around 50-750 square feet in area and are efficiently planned and designed, encouraging people to let go of today's excesses to lead a more simple lifestyle. In today's economic climate, that is one idea worth considering. The houses, which pack a range of amenities in spaces smaller than some people’s closets, are sold for $40,000 to $50,000 ready-made, but cost half as much if you build it yourself.

Jay Shafer and his Tumbleweed Tiny House Company has already been featured on Oprah, CNN, in other television programs, and in magazines. Shafer builds his smaller designs himself and ships them by truck to consumers. Many of these smaller designs are mobile homes with built-in wheels. For his larger designs, Shafer sells floor plans for on-site construction.

In 2009, Jay Shafer authored The Small House Book that further pushes the idea of small living. And apparently, the idea has caught on. Interest in living small and simple and downsizing has grown over the past months, a result of economic woes.

Who Won PCSO Grand Lotto 6/55 Jackpot of P741 M?

Millions of Filipino lotto bettors went to bed disappointed last night when the results of the PCSO Grand Lotto 6/55 draw were announced. But one lucky lotto bettor from Pampanga may not have slept at all. this "lucky pick' lotto bettor was the sole winner of the P741 M jackpot, the biggest lotto jackpot in Philippine history.

So who won the Grand Lotto 6/55 jackpot of P741 M? The PCSO has
no idea yet as the winner has not come forward. It expects the winner to claim the multi-million prize within this week or next. And when he or she does, his identity will still be kept secret by the PCSO. Unlike in other countries, identities of lotto jackpot winners are not made public for security reasons. For unlike in other societies, Philippine winners may be victimized by lawless elements if their identities are announced.

All the PCSO knows right now are the following: the winner placed the winning bet in Olongapo Cit, and the numbers were "lucky pick" or were randomly picked by the PCSO computer.

The prize is tax-free and will be given in a single tranche in the form of a check. Claiming is easy: the lucky winner should drop by the PCSO main office and present the thermal paper receipt with the winning combination and at least one valid ID to claim the prize. The winner would be issued a check and has the option of depositing or encashing the check.

Marinette, Wisconsin High School Hostage Update: All Students Released

Reports coming in from Marinette, Wisconsin say all hostages have been released. Further, police want to clarify reports that no hostages were harmed in the incident. This after inaccurate reports from social networks flooded the internet that some students have been injured in the stand off. The hostage situation at Marinette High School has been resolved, all hostages have been released.

Earlier: An armed student stormed into the northern Wisconsin high school classroom and took 23 students and a teacher hostage. There were no reports of shots fired as the authorities tried to control the situation. Later that evening, five students had been released to safety at Marinette High School.

A school administrator reported the hostage standoff at the end of the school day, 3:48 PM local time Monday, saying the student burst into the classroom and took hostages.

Update: Police report that the 15-year old hostage taker shot himself just before authorities barged into the classroom. He was taken to a nearby hospital and his condition is yet unknown.

Singapore Water Polo Team Trunks (PHOTO) Spark Controversy

The Asian Games 2010 in Guangzhou, China is over but a controversy still lingers. The Singapore water polo team trunks are at the center of this row. The swimming trunks bear the symbols of the Singapore flag - the crescent moon and stars. But it is how these elements were used and placed that is causing the uproar.

With the stars scattered on the left side of the trunks, the crescent
moon is maliciously placed right smack in front of the genitals! The government has already issued a statement calling the design of the swimming trunks inappropriate.

Unfortunately, the team did not seek our advice on the use of the crescent moon and stars when they designed their swim trunks. We would have told them that their design is inappropriate as we want elements of the flag to be treated with dignity. This is because many Singaporeans recognize these elements as representing the Singapore flag.

The Singapore water polo teams has already issued an apology and has promised not to wear the trunks again. Is this the end of it? Probably not, as Singapore is known for its strictest rules and discipline. We may see more than a reprimand for the water polo team in the coming days.

Justin Bieber Losing Voice Due To Puberty, Vocal Coach Hired

Justin Bieber is losing his voice. The teen sensation revealed that his voice is changing due to puberty and the notes he could easily reach before are out of reach now. "Some of the notes I hit on 'Baby' I can't hit anymore. We have to lower the key when I sing live."

Bieber said he has predicted this all along. "Everyone's voice changes, puberty is a natural thing," he said earlier this year. "It cracks.
Like every teenage boy, I'm dealing with it and I have the best vocal coach in the world and we're working on my voice and doing what I need to do."

The answer to his voice problems? A voice coach who once worked with Usher. "Justin is physically developing at a slower rate than most guys so his voice is only breaking now," a source said as quoted by News of the World. "He's working with the best in the business, a specialist called Jan Smith, to make sure he gets much vocal rest as humanly possible for a working pop star."

Kim Kardashian is DEAD! (PHOTO, Picture)

Yes, it's true. "Kim Kardashian is Dead!" Kardashian "died" in the Digital Life sacrifice campaign. The reality TV star can be seen lying in a coffin with tag line "Kim Kardashian Is Dead".

A number of celebrities have joined Digital Life Campaign bu quitting Twitter and Facebook for a period of time until they have raised enough money for charity. In Kim Kardashian's case, she answered to
Alicia Keys' charity Keep A Child Alive. The idea behind the campaign is very simple: celebrities will die their death on social networks, where they will only return after $1 million is raised for the aforementioned charity through text messages from fans.

Alicia Keys has reportedly convinced other stars to join in, including Lady GaGa, Swizz Beatz, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, Serena Williams, Elijah Wood, Usher, Khloe Kardashian, Janelle Monae and Ryan Seacrest.

"It's really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on," Keys said when interviewed by The Associated Press. She added, "This is such a direct and instantly emotional way and a little sarcastic, you know, of a way to get people to pay attention."

In addition to joining the campaign, the celebs, like Kardashian, would film a "last tweet and testament" video and appear in ads that show them lying in a coffin to reflect what they mean by "digital deaths".

Broadway's Spiderman The Musical Preview (VIDEO): REVIEWS, Reactions to First Preview

The first preview of Broadway's Spiderman The Musical, officially called Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark, has finally pushed through after many delays. This after encountering countless technical trouble in pre-production that includes the cancellation of its one and only full dress rehearsal last Saturday. As such, the the first preview yesterday was the first time the musical was run in its entirety.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is a rock musical with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge. The musical is based on the Spider-Man comics created by Marvel Comics and is directed by Julie Taymor. Here's a brief summary of the Broadway musical adaptation of Spider Man, courtesy of Wikipedia:

The musical follows the story of New York City teenager Peter Parker, who has a crush on his neighbor, Mary Jane Watson. His unremarkable life is turned upside-down when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science geek, suddenly endowed with astonishing powers, learns that with great power comes great responsibility, as his Uncle Ben dies when he fails to come to the rescue. A series of villains, including the Green Goblin, the multi-bladed Swiss Miss, Carnage and the mutated/mythical Arachne test not only his physical strength during mid-air battles, but also his strength of character. Maligned by the media, buffeted by financial woes, and stretched thin by the expectations of the world-at-large, Peter must struggle to navigate the demands of being a web-slinging superhero.

The musical includes both familiar story elements of the Spider-Man comic book and the 2002 Spider-Man film, including supervillains such as the Green Goblin, and new story elements, some based on Greek mythology. Added elements include a Greek chorus (Vogue magazine called it a "geek chorus") and Arachne, a new supervillain "drawn from Greek mythology."

The the musical received negative criticism from Broadway and Spider Man fans while it was in pre-production, the first preview received positive reactions. Unofficial reviews from those who saw it say the show that was "visually stunning," despite technical glitches that resulted in a number of stoppages during the performance. Indeed, there were a number of reported interruptions and technical glitches that cause some stoppage in the play. But these are normal problems in previews which are staged purposely to iron out these problems before opening night.

UK X Factor Top 7 Results: Double Elimination of Katie Waissel & Wagner Carrilho

Two acts were axed on the UK X Factor last night - a double elimination of Katie Waissel and Wagner Carrilho. Waissel had it coming after several weeks of landing in the bottom. This time, there was no saving her. Even Simon Cowell knew she had to go.

Another result of the X Factor Top 7 last night was the elimination of Wagner Carrilho. Wagner Carrilho faced a sing-off with Mary Byrne but
the judges, even his mentor Louis Walsh, decided to send him home. "Why I am happy with the decision is because there were people out there trying to derail this show for different reasons and what has happened tonight is that we have put this show back in the hands of the public," Simon Cowell said. There were reports in the paper that Wagner was smoking pot in the X Factor house.

Next week is the X Factor UK semifinal, with Matt Cardle, Mary Byrne, Rebecca Ferguson, One Direction and Cher Lloyd all competing to be in the final. Also something to watch out for next week is the appearance of the GLEE cast on The X Factor UK.

"Marquez Beat Pacquiao Twice" Shirts Hope To Provoke Pacman to Fight Marquez Anew

Juan Manuel Marquez wants another Pacquiao vs Marquez rematch. The Mexican fighter wants revenge, but he has been repeatedly turned down by the Filipino champion. Pacquiao and Marquez first fought in May 2004 ending in a draw even though the Mexican went down three times in the bout. Four years later, Pacquiao won their rematch via split decision. Now, with his victory over Australian Michael Katsidis under his belt, Juan Manuel Marquez is trying to revive his quest for
another shot at Manny Pacquiao. And he has quite an unorthodox way of doing it.

"Marquez Beat Pacquiao Twice" t-shirts! Yes, Juan Manuel Marquez has resorted to provocation by wearing a "Marquez Beat Pacquiao Twice" shirt in his post-fight press conference against Katsidis. In fact, Philboxing reports that his entire team was wearing the shirt. Will it work? I doubt it. Manny has nothing more to prove against him so I don't think the fight will materialize. In fact, coach Freddie Roach made it clear that the Filipino boxing champion will only fight in the welterweight division at 147 lbs. Rumors are, his next fight will be against Shane Mosley.

Leslie Nielsen Dead: Airplane & Naked Gun Actor Dies at 84

Lislie Nielsen is dead. Nielsen, star of the Naked Gun series of comedy films, died in Fort Lauderdale at the age of 84. Earlier this month, Nielsen was admitted to hospital for pneumonia. A few hours ago, Doug Nielsen, a nephew, announced to the CJOB radio station that the actor had died in his sleep around 5:30 PM EST, surrounded by family and friends. He stated, "Today at 5:30, with his friends and his wife Barbaree by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away."

We will always remember Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin, the clueless and accident-prone detective in the Naked Gun film series: The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991) and Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994). But what set off this string of comedy roles was Nielsen's appearance on the spoof movie Airplane.

Leslie Nielsen's nephew reflected on his life, "He was truly a nice man. A very caring, naturally funny guy in day-to-day life, not just because someone wrote something on paper for him. He was a very tender-hearted man. He was one of my best friends and I loved him dearly. I'll miss him greatly

Federer Beats Nadal for ATP World Tour 2010 Title (VIDEO)

Roger Federer is back on top. Though Federer's win over Rafael Nadal in the ATP World Tour Finals 2010 did not make him world number 1 again, it shows that the Swiss tennis ace is back at the top of his game after a rather lackluster season. Federer went as low as number 3 in the world this year but the last few months of 2010 saw him fighting back and improving his game. This win at the season ending tournament is a testament to his new game courtesy of new
coach Paul Annacone who has shortened his game and made him more aggressive.

This is his fifth ATP World Tour title. Nadal was gunning for his first. Still it was a great improvement for the Spanish world number one who disappointingly failed to make it past the round robin stage last year.

The Walking Dead Season 2 SPOILERS, Trailer, Preview, Episodes & Updates

After six episodes, The Walking Dead is bowing out of television. But only temporarily. Only six episodes were prepared for the first season so we will have to wait for the next edition of this popular television series. The Walking Dead season 2 has already been approved. Season 2 was announced as early as October 31 and 13 episodes have been planned. No word yet on when it is going to air but a good guess is Fall 2011 because production of season 2 won't start until
February 2011. Quite a long time to wait but I am sure it will be worth it.
