Less than a month before the Academy Awards, The King's Speech has caused an upset. The King's Speech has beaten The Social Network at the SAG Awards 2011, walking away with the Ensemble Cast award which is the equivalent of the Best Picture award at the Oscars.
Two weeks ago, it would have been unthinkable for The Social Network to lose. It has had a lock on this category almost from the beginning of the
awards season. But momentum has slowly gathered for a King's Speech win. The Social Network dominated early awards, including prizes from key critics and the Golden Globes, where it also won best drama and director for David Fincher.
However, The King's Speech pulled an upset over the Facebook tale at last weekend's Producers Guild of America Awards and picked up more momentum with its lead at Tuesday's Oscar nominations. Then, just recently, Tom Hooper pulled off an upset win Saturday for the top film honor at the Directors Guild of America Awards for his British monarchy tale. This sets up a showdown between the two films at the Oscars on February 27.
Meanwhile, in the acting categories, there was not upset. Colin Firth won for Best Actor, Natalie Portman won Best Actress, and Christian Bale and Melissa Leo won for their supporting roles in The Fighter.

The movie Superman: Man Of Steel has finally found its lead actor. Henry Cavill is the new Superman! Warner Brothers announced Cavill as their choice after a rather long screening process. Ironically, Cavill nearly played Superman once before and he also nearly got the Batman role that went to Christian Bale.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.
The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, "In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Cavill recently wrapped production on "The Cold Light of Day" and stars in the upcoming "Immortals," opening this fall.
Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The next British Grand Slam men's title win will have to wait. Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray in straight sets in the Australian Open 2011 men's final to send British hopes down the drain again. Andy Murray will have to wait for the next Grand Slam tournament, the French Open or Wimbledon, to end Britain's Grand Slam men's title drought. Their last win was in 1936 at the US Open.
There was no denying Novak Djokovic his second Grand Slam win. Much like his semifinal match against Roger Federer, Djokovic was all business in this Australian Open final. His defense was up all throughout the match, giving Andy Murray a hard time to penetrate.
“You always have to try to find a way, to believe,” Murray said. “When I got ahead in some games, even in just points, he was sticking up lobs that were landing on the baseline, passing shots that were on the line. I broke his serve twice in the third set and still lost 6-3.”
It was Djokovic in this match - a dominating performance. From the start, you could sense how focused he was on winning the title. On the other hand, Andy Murray looked fidgety and nervous. And that stayed with him for the most part of the match. The statistics showed it all - Djokovic won 11 of his 14 service games, while Murray only won six of 13, and the Serb pounded Murray’s second serve, with the Scot winning just 16 of 51 points (31 percent) on his second serve.

Kevin Garnet was ejected from the Boston vs Phoenix game Friday after hitting Channing Frye below the belt. Garnett's cheap shot on Frye was captured on video and it is posted below. It happened with 4:07 left, when Kevin Garnett went out to challenge a 3-point attempt by Frye. Like what he did earlier in the game, Garnett got a little too close and was called for a foul when Frye came down on his foot. But this time, he hit Channing Frye in the groin area while the latter was up in the air making his attempt. Frye grimaced
on the floor and that's when the confrontation between the two and the rest of their teammates followed.
Kevin Garnett was hit with two technical fouls and ejected from the game. Frye was also called for a technical as with Boston players Nate Robinson and Kendrick Perkins. The Phoenix Suns eventually defeated the Celtics 88-71.
Christina Aguilera is headed for Super Bowl 2011. Christina Aguilera will sing the Star Spangled Banner, aka the national anthem, at Super Bowl XLV. This was confirmed earlier this week. Aside from Aguilera, other performers at Super Bowl 2011 are Glee star Lea Michele and The Black Eyed Peas. Michele, aka Rachel Berry in Glee, will perform America The Beautiful, while The Black Eyed Peas has been tapped as halftime performers. Watch out for the videos of these performances her right after the event.

In other Super Bowl news, as of yesterday, the Green Bay Packers are two to three point favorites this year, making this the first Super Bowl in which the Pittsburgh Steelers are underdogs since Super Bowl XXX. In all four previous Super Bowls that Green Bay played in, they were favored to win. As to their head-to-head matchup, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Packers did not play each other this season. The last time the two teams met was December 20, 2009, when the Steelers defeated the Packers 37–36 at Heinz Field. That game was marked by four lead changes in the fourth quarter and a game-winning touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Mike Wallace as time expired.
All set to watch the 2011 Super Bowl? GLEE fans will be happy to learn that Lea Michele will be at Super Bowl XLV. Lea Michele has been chosen to sing America The Beautiful, one of the fixture themes of the event. Aside from Michele, other celebrity performers already confirmed to perform at the event are The Black Eyed Peas, the halftime performers, and Christina Aguilera, who will sing the national anthem. It's the last two episodes of Two and a Half Men while Charlie Sheen is in rehab. According to CBS earlier, 16 episodes have been shot before the Two and a Half Men production hiatus.
